The Real Reason I Stopped Health Coaching

Jen Rudis, Founder of Jenerate Wellness in Waunakee, Wisconsin

10 Oct The Real Reason I Stopped Health Coaching

I’m going to open the gate and share a massive secret with you.

Something I’ve been keeping a pretty tight lid on for a long time.

Actually, for over 2 years.

Many of you know, back in the Spring, I took a break from my one-to-one health coaching.

I also didn’t run any group programs over the summer.

And I’ve been fairly MIA, quiet on here, and social media

So, here’s the deal:

The beauty of being an entrepreneur and owning your own business is you get to decide.

You get to decide how to you spend your time

You get to decide what to wear to work

You get to decide what projects you want to work on

You get to channel your energy into anything you want

You get to decide how early/late you want to work (it’s current 6:52am on a Sunday. I’m in northern WI relaxing, visiting family…but I woke up a few minutes ago with a burning desire to get this on paper. My brother found me at the kitchen table writing this and just laughed, shaking his head. I told him the brain of an entrepreneur NEVER takes a day off!)

And you get to get up one day and decide to take a break from something you love and have a burning passion for, to follow your heart on another “project” that is literally keeping you up at night.

It wasn’t until my trip to Toronto earlier in the Summer, that I realized I could make the call to switch gears and focus more energy into education about Infrared Saunas.

I’m going to try and sum this up quickly and get right to the point, but please, stay with me.

I quit a job I loved 4 years ago to chase a dream and open JW.

I had a desire to share and educate others about what I learned during my own personal health journey.

My mission has always been simple: to educate and empower others in nutrition, vibrant healthy lifestyles, and share the power of safe, natural healing.

On difficult days, I waiver and wonder wtf am I doing, how can I possible do all I want to do…I go back to my core mission and re-center my thoughts.

In the Spring of 2015, I woke up one morning with a large amount of anxiety.

JW was open about 6 months at this point, I had so many ideas and thoughts flying threw my head it’s hard to put into words. I didn’t know what to do first.

And it was a Sunday, so it was supposed to be “my day of rest” (insert HUGE thank you to my very understanding fiancé who puts up daily with my crazy ways)

The tremendous amount of love, support, transformational testimonies, and positive community feedback was so overwhelmingly intense, I could barely control my breathing.

I realized the infrared saunas (that had really no presence in the area until I opened JW) have this massive ability to detoxify, restore, and help heal the human body. For SO many people.

I started thinking about who I could focus on and who needed this most. Not just in Waunakee, Madison, or even Wisconsin.

In my opinion, almost everyone can benefit from having a IR sauna in their home or access to one. But those in a certain health crisis or profession that expose them to toxins, NEED to know what IR heat can do.

We rely on Police, First Responders/EMT’s, and Firefighters to protect us. So, it makes sense that we want them to be healthy and well, as well as live long, meaningful lives.

Fast forward to October 21, 2016, a female fire fighter, came in for her first sauna session. We ended up chatting for a couple hours. She shared with me what she already knew about IR heat and how they hoped to get a sauna in their fire station. The fierce emotions I felt after our conversation can’t be put into words. She lit a fire (pun intended!) in me. I decided to sharply focus on this topic and do what it takes to explore this more.

Firefighters are exposed to some of the worst human carcinogens on the planet, especially after a structure fire. And then after, go home to their families and unfortunately expose them. I started digging into this line of work and realized it’s one of the leading, toxic professions.

Opening in 2014, my ultimate goal was to help others create wellness centers in their home. Now, I’m on a new mission. Well, a side mission. To share the benefits of infrared heat and how it can help a profession that so desperately needs it. My goal is to help place infrared saunas in as many fire stations across our country as possible!

Earlier this year, I partnered with an organization, Fire Fighter Cancer Foundation (FFCF ) to better understand fire fighter’s needs in the industry as well as what can I do. As a business owner and licensed dealer to sell Clearlight Infrared Saunas, I realized two things:

  1. I have power. Like, A LOT of fricken power.
  2. I don’t know everything there is to know and I need help to spread the message.

Stay with me, almost to the end!

In July, Cindy Ell, a retired fire fighter, critical care paramedic, cancer survivor, and founder of FFCF, launched and presented our partnership and mission to a group of fire chiefs from across the country. In August, a fire chief from New York called me. They invited me to attend a Health & Safety Conference (I attended a couple weeks ago) to educate about IR technology and how it can help prevent disease.

After I hung up the phone, I jumped out of my chair, air-guitared, high-fived myself, and did a serious, random jig in my office. And literally did a series of cartwheels in the front lobby of JW. Followed by a number of crazy, random movements that had absolutely no rhythm. Because you must celebrate the wins!! And this, THIS is a win!

I also want to mention, I am working with several area fire stations as well. Many are equally excited and the process is moving forward. I’ll keep you posted.

In closing, thank you for reading this. Thank you for your continued support. And thank you for being a loyal, valued member of the JW community.

I do have a request/favor: if you, or someone you know, can benefit from using an infrared sauna in any way, please, PLEASE share this link with them to redeem their $20 beginner sauna session. If you have an interest in owning your own sauna or know someone who might, please reach out with any questions. If you are, or know, a fire fighter who wants to learn more about disease prevent and this project, please let me know.

Health & Happiness,

PS… I’m delighted to share: the fire fighter (spouse is a fire fighter too!) who came in last year decided to invest in their own sauna and can now enjoy the detoxifying benefits in their home. CHEERS! 😊
