18 Jul Meet Sam!
Hi! I’m Sam and I’m Jen’s new, summer intern who has a big passion for food and helping people live their healthiest and happiest lives. I grew up here in Waunakee, Wisconsin, and have been using the saunas at Jenerate Wellness since they’ve opened!
I’m going to be a senior at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire this fall studying Business Management, with hopes to one day own my own small business. My love for health and wellness really skyrocketed two years ago when I started competing on the cross country and track teams at Eau Claire. I had to find a balance between keeping myself healthy and fit to race, and not putting all of my energy and focus into running at the same time so it didn’t take over my life. It was very challenging for me, and took a lot of time, support from family and friends, and advice from my coaches to get to where I am today, which is healthy AND happy! I hope to one day use my degree as well as my knowledge and experience being a college athlete, to open up a related business. I want to help those who need additional support and guidance, by advising them of what they should be eating, to make sure they’re the healthiest they can be.
I first approached Jen this past winter after I saw her monthly newsletter addressing all of her up-and-coming projects, which included working with the firefighters out west and empowering women in the workplace. I was looking for an internship where I wouldn’t get “lost in the mix” of a big corporation, or an internship just because I had to do one. I figured if I was going to be putting my energy into helping a business, I wanted that business to be local and I wanted to be passionate about it. I knew that Jen and I had similar mindsets in our drive and dedication to the health and wellness field, and that she’d allow me to do so much more hands on work than any other internship opportunity I could take … and I was right! J
My family had known Jen since we’ve all used the saunas, and after my mom and I both received her monthly newsletter talking about the summer projects, my mom said to me, “This sounds like something you’d love to do! You should ask Jen if she needs any help!”. I was totally on board, and Jen and I met the next week so I could offer my help to her this summer. She said yes and we started working on a summer plan where she would teach me everything she knew about starting and maintaining a successful business, and I would contribute my knowledge on things like current social media trends and using different software for formatting documents and pictures.
Jen and I have a lot planned for the rest of the summer, and I’ve already learned SO much from her and those that she partners with. I’m so excited to see how the rest of my internship experience unfolds with her, and I hope that we can still continue to work together and learn from each other beyond this summer!
