Mother Nature tends to creatively remind us that each day can change on a dime. Growing up in northern Wisconsin, we never got too comfortable with warmer weather until, well, sometimes June. One thing is for certain though, Spring comes every year in March, at least per the calendar.  Hands down, Spring is my all-time favorite season to clean slate, or clear the clutter, in all aspects of my life to make room for the “things” that matter most.

Whether it’s cleaning out closets to free up space for some cute, new summer fashion, or rummage sale all the crap in the garage that is constantly in the way when opening the car door, it no doubt feels great to purge the junk cluttering up our space.

As you can imagine, I have countless ways I like to detoxify my mind and body, but I’ve narrowed them down to my top 15. (I tried to list 10, but it was impossible!)

15 Simple Ways To Spring Cleanse:

  1. Drink More Water

Most of us don’t drink enough water. Keeping hydrated has many benefits, not only does it help flush toxins from the body it can also help speedclean slate metabolism. One study found drinking half a liter of water temporarily boosted metabolism in women by as much as 30%. Drinking water half an hour before meals can also increase the feeling of satiation and lead to less overeating.

  1. Far Infrared Sauna

You knew this was going to hit the list! Our skin is our largest organ and sweating, our internal cooling system, is our bodies natural and most effective way to detox. It makes perfect sense to draw toxins out through the skin instead of “cleanse” them through our other organs, like many popular products promote. The non-water portion of sweat released in a FIR sauna was cholesterol, fat-soluble toxins, toxic heavy metals, sulphuric acid, sodium, ammonia and uric acid. Infrared light penetrates human tissue up to 2 inches to safely raise our core body temperature about 3 degrees during a 40-minute session. This self-induced “fever” results in a healthy, deep detoxifying sweat at the cellular level, where majority of toxins reside. In addition, infrared sauna therapy promotes excellent cardiovascular conditioning and weight loss. It’s not hard to do, and there a few ways of going about it. Some people choose to incorporate a fresh pressed juice and consume no food from waking until around lunch time. Others will opt for a Bulletproof coffee, coffee blended with grass fed butter and MCT or Brain Octane oil (BP Coffee, Oils, and Ghee available at Jenerate Wellness). Intermittent fasting is an easy way to boost detoxification and speed weight loss.

  1. Cut Out Sugar

Sugar is a drain in more ways than one. In short, sugar is toxic! When we hop off the blood sugar roller coaster we create more stable internal energy. Excess sugar is associated with chronic diseases like diabetes and cancer, inflammation, lowered immunity, candida, and parasites. Make simple changes and start looking at the core, staple foods in your life. Replace those foods first with better options and be focused on reading labels. If sugar is in the first five ingredients, it’s not a good choice. Find a new brand.

  1. Dry Skin Brushing

It’s said to pull toxins from the body, particularly those in the mouth and even the pineal gland. Studies have found oil pulling effective in treating streptococcus, gingivitis, and halitosis (bad breath). Be sure to stay away from conventional GMO oils and stick to organic coconut or sesame oil.

YES!! After laughter for stress relief, comes sex. It releases feel good bonding hormones and endorphins that make us feel amazing.

  1. Foam Rolling

If you’ve never foam rolled, you’re in for a treat. Foam rolling is beneficial for releasing lactic acid in the muscles and releasing tension. It’s a form of self-massage using a foam tube about the width of ones back. They can be purchased for a lot less than a professional massage.

  1. Drink Apple Cider Vinegar

It might sound strange but ACV is an incredibly cleansing substance. ACV improves digestion by boosting the levels of HCl in the stomach.

  1. De-stress

The number one thing holding us back from achieving balance is high stress levels. Do everything you can to keep stress down.

  1. Invest in a Good Water Filter

We’re made of mostly water, so it makes sense to drink only the purest form. City water is loaded with toxic fluoride and chlorine which kills beneficial microbes. Not only that, but tiny remnants of pharmaceutical drugs remain in the water supply and we end up ingesting them. Not ideal for anyone, especially small children.

  1. Sleep More

Sleep is arguably the most important part of detoxification and it’s also plays a role to help with weight loss and squelching cravings. Our body restores and repairs while we sleep, so in this fast-paced world it is imperative we give our body adequate time to get us ready for tomorrow.

  1. Listen to Music

Music is a great way to either stimulate the mind or unwind, it has the uncanny ability to distract us from our woes as it releases the feel-good hormone dopamine in the brain. Keeping healthy is so closely correlated with our stress levels, listening to music can help reduce stress and bring on more positive mind states.
